The journey begins – From apathy to concern

At SHER (Society for Heritage & Ecological Researches), conservation is not an ambition, it’s a calling. While the path may be challenging for those who walk it with us, any line between philanthropy and environmental care fades. When nature is at the heart of everything, it is believed that true humanitarians are those who prioritize the well-being of the environment. This belief forms the emotional core of SHER, an initiative powered by conviction, hard work, the unwavering strength of purpose, and of course love and passion.
The faces behind SHER are not idealists lost in dreams, but they understand that without careful and responsible dreaming, the future itself may cease to offer anything worth dreaming about.
The journey of SHER began long before its formal founding. Nearly three decades ago, each of its members started contributing in their own way, be it by actively engaging with communities, or through immersive travel, research, and fieldwork. Many passionate members were working within the boundaries of their professions and going the extra mile for nature, doing what is takes to protect her. SHER has brought these individuals together into a more structured and united effort that seeks to nurture ecology, celebrate cultural and natural heritage, and inspire more people to care for the environment. The name Society for Heritage & Ecological Researches — SHER — was bestowed by one of Bengal’s most visionary and respected forest officers, Dr. Pradeep Vyas, IFS (Retd.), whose gesture continues to shape and inspire SHER’s mission.
To work with “changemakers”, individuals and organizations with power to create meaningful change, is considered a rare privilege. It is an even greater honor when it is known that our voices will be heard and the message has touched the right chord. At this moment in its journey, SHER seeks your insight, strength, and support to take its shared vision forward.
